Update
Construction at the future Momentum has been under way for a few months now. A few of the major things going on at the site are:
  • Construction for Momentum is underway with grading taking place at our site and should be completed September.  In addition to grading, exhibit design and fabrication are taking place off site.
  • Our general contractor is Beverly Grant and many local jobs -- a projected 300 -- will be provided by our project.  At its grand opening, Momentum will employ an additional 30 to 40 people.
  • The installation of stormwater drainage along Cumberland Avenue will be completed soon. This work will prevent runoff from the surrounding neighborhood from pouring into the site. During this process, great care has been taken to avoid damage to existing trees along Cumberland;
  • The new drainage pipes will connect with our Stormtech bio-filtration system to prevent flooding of Reed Creek. The Stormtech system has arrived at the site and is awaiting installation;
  • The crew has installed a single-arch culvert for the vehicular bridge over Reed Creek.
  • Work continues on the entry drive from Broadway, as well, including the erecting of retaining wall;
  • Grading of the future building and parking areas has begun.

Momentum: Science & Health Adventure Park

The Health Adventure’s New Adventure will be a world-class interactive science museum and discovery park on anenvironmentally friendly campus where all ages gather to explore life, health,and the environment.  The projected opening date is 2010.

Some of the elements that Momentum will bring are:

*  A 39,000-square-foot facility offering a healthy food service, a large changing exhibits gallery, and quality health and science exhibits that spark imagination and positive transformation.

*An environmentally friendly campus with unique outdoor exhibits, a children's garden, an open air amphitheater and walking trails nestled amid 10 beautiful acres.

*North America's very first Pedal-Powered Monorail in which you can pedal through the treetops for a bird's eye view of the campus!

*The Turner Treehouse: A treehouse large enough to hold it's own classroom where you can enjoy endless opportunites for exploration, climbing, sliding and learning.

*Green building principles will guide construction in order to obtain LEED certification.  Key features include; a bio-retention filtration system to filter the storm water runoff before it enters Reed Creek; the building itself will utilize green building principles to maximize its natural heating, cooling and air flow capacity; construction will seek to impact the land as lightly as possible; and invasive species will be replaced with native species.
