Great news!! The Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority (BCTDA), through the Tourism Product Development Fund (TPDF), just awarded more than $2.6 million to six community tourism projects. This brings the total amount awarded to projects to nearly $12 million since 2001. Funding for the TPDF comes from 1% of the 4% occupancy tax collected at Buncombe County lodgings to assist with construction of projects that are expected to further enhance the community, while also driving more overnight hotel stays and pumping additional dollars into the local economy. Among the many recipients was Momentum, which will receive a $500,000 grant to build an indoor planetarium within the new facility.

The Health Adventure is pleased to have held its groundbreaking ceremony for Momentum on December 1, 2008. Following this momentous event, pre-construction activities have begun at the future home of The Health Adventure (on the corner of Broadway and Catawba approximately one mile outside of downtown Asheville), including the following:
- A temporary construction fence has been erected around the perimeter of the property
- Trees in the area of the future building, exhibit, and parking areas are being harvested and milled for use in the building construction (Momentum is striving for LEED-certification by the US Green Building Council , and The Health Adventure is pleased to use the most local materials possible as part of its construction)
- Protective fencing has been erected around trees that will be preserved for Momentum, including all the trees along Reed Creek and in the areas of the future Amphitheater, Treehouse, and walking trails.
As progress continues, The Health Adventure will post additional updates to this web site. Stay tuned!
